Something I need to address on here is the question that has long divided metalheads. Who gets to be called teh first true heavy metal band.
There's a lot of controversy and anger behind this, many people concentrate on where heavy metal originated and others concentrate on who made the first heavy metal music.
Here are some examples of early metal,
Blue Cheer
Jimi Hendrix
Black Sabbath
Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple
Steppenwolf
Rush
All these bands were right there at the beginning. Black Sabbath is who I think is the first heavy metal band. Although Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple along with Blue Cheer are all somehow responsible.
Who do you think was the first? And don't do a whole lot of shit about who I missed, I'm not trying to include ALL of early HM. Although at least an honorable mention should be the Kinks

Ugh...Deep Purple. My husband was rocking out to that all last night.
well thats because he has good taste in early metal. SMOOOOOOOOOOOKE ON THE WAAAAAAAAAAATEEERRRRRRRRRR
honestly black sabbath is the first metal band if it wasnt for the guitarist chopping his fingers off the music wouldnt sound the same and there would be a completly different sound in metal so in my oppinion hads down its got to be them
I agree with you on that. I was simply addressing bands that had a lasting affect on metal. Early metal doesn't necessarily equal the first heavy metal band. Black Sabbath is the first for me to. :) But you can't just say them and be done with it. You have to sort of have a little bit of discussion. Because there are so many other bands. As long as you don't say Zeppelin anyway.....
HIM in my opinion isn't metal love metal or not call them what you want they just idk i personally love HIM i've got all of there albums but there not metal
